| British film director and producer. He entered the film industry in 1935 and served in the RAF Film Unit during World War 2. His post-war feature films include The Bespoke Overcoat (1955), Room at the Top (1958, Oscar nomination for best director), and The Pumpkin Eater (1964). Among later films are The Great Gatsby (1974), Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983), and The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne (1987). |
