| biography:
| Flemish writer, born in Mortsel, N Belgium. After his first poetry Daar tegenover (1947, Opposite to There) and a number of autobiographical novels and stories, he turned to experimental literature in which language, in addition to being a means, becomes a main topic. He began writing two series of novels: Alfa (5 vols) and Journal Brut (10 vols). The Alfa cycle has been completed, and of the Journal Brut cycle seven volumes had been published (to 1999). His radical views on language and literature bear resemblance to those of Vogelaar and van Marissing, and can be classified as postmodernist. |
