| Industrialist, born in Downers Grove, Illinois, USA. He worked in industrial research, technology, and marketing before joining what became Nucor Corp (1962), where he became president and chief executive officer (1965–85), and also chairman (1985). His introduction of high technology in the first US ‘mini’steel mill in Darlington, SC (1969), and in an innovative flat-rolled steel plant (1989), revitalized the American steel industry. |
