| Writer, born in Simbirsk, W Russia. He graduated from Moscow University (1834), led an uneventful life in the civil service, and wrote Oblomov (1858), a leading work of Russian Realism. In it he creates one of the great myths of the Russian man, presenting him as lazy, impractical, and fatalistic, thus creating a literary archetype recognized the world over. |
