| Radical journalist, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He studied at Pennsylvania University, then joined the liberal reformist New York Post (1933–8) and its weekly long-time ally, the New York Nation (1938–46), ultimately becoming its Washington editor. A supporter of unpopular causes, he was hostile to the Cold War, opposed America's involvement in the Vietnam War, and founded the influential I F Stone's Weekly (later Bi-Weekly, 1953–71). |
