| biography:
| Jewish journalist, interviewer, drama critic, novelist, and columnist, born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. His work is greatly influenced by the time he spent in German concentration camps during World War 2. A particular recurring theme is the inability of his traumatized parents to give him the love he craved, as in Brief aan mijn moeder (1974, Letter to My Mother). Under the pseudonym De Dikke Man (The Fat Man), he wrote satirical columns for the Parool newspaper, containing sharp observations of the daily life in Amsterdam, but he is best kown as a journalist famous for his distinct and personal style of interviewing. |
