| President of Argentina (1974–6), born in La Rioja Province, NWC Argentina. She was a dancer, who became the third wife of Juan Perón in 1961, living with him in Spain until his return to Argentina as president in 1973, when she was made vice-president. She took over the presidency at his death in 1974, but her inadequacy in office led to a military take-over in 1976. She was imprisoned for five years on a charge of abuse of public property, and on her release in 1981 settled in Madrid. |
