| Poet, born in Verona, Veneto, N Italy. He was a leading exponent of the transition period from neo-classicism to Romanticism, and was a member of the Arcadia movement. He is chiefly remembered for his translation of Homer's Odyssey (1882), which is infused with a feeling of melancholy. He also wrote the poem La fata morgana (1782), the collection Poesie campestri (1788), and the autobiographical novel Abaritte (1792). |
