| biography:
| Egyptian physician and adviser to King Zoser (3rd dynasty). He was probably the architect of the so-called Step Pyramid at Sakkara, near Cairo. In time, he came to be revered as a sage, and during the Saite period (500 BC) he was worshipped as the life-giving son of Ptah, god of Memphis. The Greeks identified him with their own god of healing, Asclepius, because of his reputed knowledge of medicine. Many bronze figures of him have been discovered. |
