Poet and biographer, born in Loja, S Spain. His Círculo is a curious anthology of the lives of men associated with his adopted town of Granada. While at the court of Muhammad V in Granada his enemies intrigued against him, causing him to flee to North Africa, where he was captured, brought back to prison, and strangled.
