| biography:
| Poet, born in Córdoba, S Spain. A prodigy at the court of al-Mutawakkil de Badajoz, he abandoned court life at the victory of Yussif ibn Tashfi in 1094, and began composing for parties and patrons who would pay him for his verses. His Cancionero of 149 zejels celebrates love (with boys, girls, and married women), wine, and food, and is entertaining and instructive for its undoubtedly genuine autobiographical elements. He ended his days in piety as an imam. |
