| Dancer, choreographer, and director, born in Melbourne, Victoria, SE Australia. He joined the Australian Ballet in 1969, and left ballet in 1974 to perform with the Dance Company of New South Wales (now Sydney Dance Company). He moved to England in 1977, where he formed the Ian Spink Group, but it was in partnership with Siobhan Davies and Richard Alston in Second Stride (an experimental dance company founded in 1982) that he first found success there. He became sole artistic director in 1987. Up-beat and theatrical, his popular work includes Weighing the Heart (1987) and Dancing and Shouting (1988). |
