| Poet, born in Lentini, Sicily, S Italy. He was a notary at Frederick II's court and, according to Dante, started the Sicilian school of poetry. He is said to have invented the sonnet and to have codified the canzone's metrical form. All that remains of his work is 30 canzones and sonnets. |
