| Poet, born in Naples, Campania, SW Italy. He was a friend of Alfonso of Aragón, Duke of Calabria and of the King of Naples, Frederick I, whom he followed to France in 1501. He studied the classics but also Tuscan literature, as shown by Arcadia (1501, 1504) the first pastoral novel, which became well known throughout Europe. His production in the vernacular includes six Farse (1481), the Gliommeri (1486), and the Petrarca-inspired Rime (1530). He also wrote works in Latin. |
