| biography:
| US representative and governor, born in Wilmington, Delaware, USA. He served as technical representative for Du Pont Nemours & Co (1963–70), going to the US House of Representatives (Republican, Delaware, 1971–7). As governor of Delaware (1977–85), he promoted business development by relaxing banking and credit laws, and opposed capital punishment. He later practised law in Washington. |
