| Financial executive, born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Born into a prominent Beacon Hill family, he graduated from Harvard (1954) and joined his father's firm, Fidelity Management & Research Corp, rising to president and chief executive officer (1972–7). In 1977 he became chairman and chief executive officer of Fidelity's parent, FMR Corp, which he built into one of the nation's largest money management concerns, particularly by aggressive marketing of mutual funds. |
