| biography:
| Journalist, writer, editor, and small-game hunter, born in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. An adherent of the ‘new journalism’, he was the first reporter to infiltrate the Hell's Angels, and rode with them for a year, an experience which led to his being savagely beaten up. He awarded himself a doctorate and produced a stream of outrageous books, including Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1971) and Generations of Swine (1988). At the end of the 1980s he contributed a weekly column to the San Francisco Examiner. Later books include Better than Sex (1995), The Rum Diary (1998), and Screwjack and Other Stories (2000). |
