| Aeronautical engineer, born in Flensburg, N Germany. He helped develop the rigid airship, and became a director of the Zeppelin firm (1911). He piloted the ZR3 on the first Trans-Atlantic airship flight (1924), and commanded the Graf Zeppelin on the first airship flight around the world (1929). |
