| Physicist, born in Hatherop, Gloucestershire, SWC England, UK. He studied at Cambridge, and was professor of physics at McGill University, Montreal (1893), University College London (1898), and the Imperial College of Science (1902). He devised a constant-pressure air thermometer which could measure up to 450°C, and also an accurate platinum resistance thermometer. |
