| English baron. He became chief adviser to Edward I, but was banished with his son, Hugh, in 1321. Recalled the next year by Edward II, he was created Earl of Winchester. After Queen Isabella's landing in England (1326), he was captured by the queen's party and hanged at Bristol, as was his son at Hereford. |
