Originally intended for ordination in the Anglican Church, he became a travelling preacher in Wales, capable of gathering large crowds. Refused ordination, he founded his own community at Trefeca. His split with other Methodist leaders, notably Daniel Rowland (1713–90) and William Williams (1717–91), became known as the ‘great schism’. |
