| Historian, born in Detroit, Michigan, USA. He studied at Harvard, and went on to direct the Hispanic Foundation at the Library of Congress (1952–71). A pioneer ethnohistorian, he studied social and ethnic history, particularly of Mexico, and this was the subject of two of his major works: The United States and Mexico (1953) and Mexico: Evolution to Revolution (1962). |
