| Archaeologist, born in Swaffham, Norfolk, E England, UK. He joined Flinders Petrie's archaeological survey of Egypt as an artist in 1891, from 1907 conducting his own research under the patronage of George Herbert. His discoveries included the tombs of Hatshepsut (1907), Thutmose IV and, most notably, Tutankhamen (1922), a find on which he worked for the remainder of his life. |
