| biography:
| Dancer, choreographer, and teacher, born in Worms, SWC Germany. A pupil of Emile Jacques-Dalcroze, starting in 1921 she worked as both teacher and dancer with Mary Wigman, who in 1931 sent her to New York City to establish the US branch of her school. In 1936 she founded her own studio, and became a key figure in the field of modern dance. She is best known for her choreography for Broadway musicals such as Kiss Me Kate (1948) and My Fair Lady (1956). |
