| Linguist, born in Gelballe, SC Denmark. He studied at Copenhagen University, where he became professor of linguistics. A prolific writer of books and articles on language science, he is chiefly remembered for his work in the field of comparative Celtic grammar, notably Vergleichende Grammatik der keltischen Sprachen (2 vols, 1909–13, Comparative Grammar of the Celtic Languages) and the Concise Comparative Celtic Grammar (1937). |
