| German politician and jurist, born in Bernburg, Saale, E Germany. She was a member of the German Socialist Unity Party (SED). As deputy chairman of the Supreme Court of the German Democratic Republic (1949–53) she was known for her draconian rulings. From 1953, following the workers' revolt in June, until 1967 she was minister of justice, playing a decisive role in the Stalinist reorganization of the country's legal system. |
