| biography:
| Snooker player, born in Belfast, NE Northern Ireland, UK. He had a tempestuous career after becoming the youngest world champion in 1972, at age 23. A former trainee jockey, he became a professional snooker player in 1971, and won the world title at the first attempt. He won the title for a second time in 1982, and though less successful thereafter he has remained a favourite with snooker fans despite (or because of) his confrontations with the authorities. |
