| Greek mathematician and inventor. He devised many machines, among them a fire engine, a water organ, coin-operated devices, and the aeolipile, the earliest known steam engine. He showed that the angle of incidence in optics is equal to the angle of reflection, and devised the formula for expressing the area of a triangle in terms of its sides. |
