| A soldier-poet, born in Valladolid, NWC Spain. He served in Germany, Italy, and Tunisia. His widow published his Varias poesías (1591) which were greatly influenced by Petrarch. His translations include some of Ovid, the first four books of Boiardo's Orlando inanamorato, and Olivier de La Marche's Le Chevalier délibéré, which he supposedly versified from a prose rendering of the French text by Charles V. |
