| biography:
| Humanist, born in Talavera de la Reina, WC Spain. One of the foremost Latinists of his age in Spain, he taught successively at the universities of Sevilla, Córdoba, Alcalá, and (from 1513) Salamanca. His Breve disputa de ocho levados contra Aristótil y sus secuaces (1517) is a bilingual dialogue opposing some points in Aristotelian philosophy, whose speakers include the writer's brother Gabriel, Hernán Núñez, Pedro Mártir, and Aristotle himself. He also wrote a Grámatica and a Rhetórica disputing Priscian's Instituciones grammaticae. |
