| Chemist, born in Worms, SWC Germany. He studied at Halle, and became professor at Freiburg (1926–40), then research director (1940–51). He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1953 for his research in macro-molecular chemistry, which contributed to the development of plastics. |
