| biography:
| Writer and librarian, born in Reutlingen, SW Germany. Influenced by the late Romantics Schwab, Kerner, Lenau, and especially Mörike, he published together with the neo-Romantic Heyse the collection Deutscher Novellenschatz (1871 pp.). He also wrote novels, including Schillers Heimatjahre (1843) and Der Sonnenwirt (1854), but was particularly popular with his contemporaries for his lively literary sketches of Swabia. In addition he translated texts from various European languages and Middle High German. |
