| Composer and pianist, born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, and has been a professor at the Academy since 1955. He made his debut as a composer in 1929 and as a pianist in 1930. His compositions include seven symphonies, four piano concertos, six string quartets, an opera (Macbeth, 1970), a ballet, and music for theatre, film, and radio. He had been awarded several prizes, among them the Ove Christensen honorary prize in 1952 and the Carl Nielsen prize in 1958. |
