| biography:
| Painter, born in Haarlem, The Netherlands. He may have studied in Amsterdam. He was author of some of the grandest and most romantic mountain landscapes of the 17th-c (influencing Rembrandt, who collected his work), yet fewer than 15 pictures survive. Most of his works are original and powerful etchings, but even these are rare. He was last recorded in 1633, living in The Hague. |
