| Parliamentary judge and regicide, born in Oxford, Oxfordshire, SC England, UK. He studied at Oxford, was a prominent member of the Long Parliament, but was expelled from it (1643–6) as an extremist. He fought in the parliamentary army, then returned to parliament, sat on Charles I's trial, and signed his death warrant. After the Restoration he was imprisoned at Chepstow Castle (1660) for the remainder of his life. |
