| Physician and writer, born in Dun Laoghaire (formerly Kingstown), Co Dublin, E Ireland. He studied at Malvern College and St George's and St Mary's Hospitals, London, and made several voyages as a ship's doctor. He was the author of many popular novels, including The Blue Lagoon (1908), The Pearl Fishers (1915), and Green Coral (1935). He wrote his autobiography in Men and Mice (1942 and 1945). |
