| Writer, born in Brockley, near Lewisham, S London, UK. He served in World War 1, became a journalist, then turned to farming in Norfolk. He wrote several semi-autobiographical novels, including his long series A Chronicle of Ancient Sunlight (1951–69), but is best known for his classic nature stories, such as Tarka the Otter (1927, Hawthornden Prize). |
