| Grain merchant, born in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. He bought the Quaker Mill in Ravenna, OH (1881) and in 1888 formed the Buckeye Foundry Co (forerunner of the Perfection Stove Co of Cleveland) to make oil stoves. He moved to Chicago where he became the senior executive of the American Cereal Co (Quaker Oats Co from 1901), whose board he chaired (1922–44). A devout man, he presided over the Moody Bible Institute board of trustees (1904–44). |
