| Novelist and essayist, born in London, UK. He grew up in the London Docks, with a love of the sea and an ambition to travel. He took up journalism, travelled to the Amazon and wrote, The Sea and the Jungle (1912). His other titles include Tidemarks (1924) and other travel books, as well as the novel Gallions Reach (1927). |
