| Industrial engineer, born in Calvert Co, Maryland, USA. During 1887–93 he worked with Frederick W Taylor in the scientific management of Midvale Steel and Bethlehem Steel. He later originated the ‘task and bonus’ system of wage payment, and developed methods of assessing worker efficiency and productivity. He served as a consultant until his death. |
