| Painter, born in Adelaide, South Australia. He studied at Manchester University Medical School and at Guy's Hospital before taking up painting. He exhibited with the Camden Town Group, and was an official war artist (1940–4). His best-known work is the portrait of Lytton Strachey (1914, Tate, London). |
