| Irish statesman. He studied at Dublin and Oxford, and was leader of the Popular Party in the Irish parliament after his election in 1759. In 1775 he became vice-treasurer of Ireland, but was removed in 1781 as a strong nationalist. In 1783 he was returned for Winchester, and in 1785 for Seaford, but he failed to make a great mark at Westminster. |
