| Chemist, educator, and bibliographer, born in New York City, New York, USA. He taught chemistry at Trinity College (1877–87), then retired to pursue his many interests, which included the action of organic acids on minerals. He was a founder of the American Folklore Society and he published papers on that subject as well as on alchemy and the history of chemistry. |
