| French mercenary captain under the Dutch Stadtholder Prince William II of Orange. In the second Anglo-Dutch War (1665–7) he was employed by De Witt as emissary to the English, but also worked secretly for the pro-English Orange party. When his duplicity was discovered, he was arrested and executed. |
