| Writer, born in Epinal, E France. He wrote mainly religious works, such as Histoire de l'Eglise du Christ (7 vols, 1948–56) in the light of archaeological discoveries, Histoire Sainte (1943), and Jésus en son temps (1945). Among his novels are L'Âme obscure (1929) and Mort, où est ta victoire? (1934). He was editor of the review Ecclesia, and was elected to the Académie Française in 1955. |
