| biography:
| Novelist and essayist, born in Thonon-les-Bains, EC France. He studied law, then turned to writing, beginning with Le Pays natal (1900), a novel on family problems, followed by Les Roquevillard (1905). He also wrote tales and short stories, including L'Amour en fuite (1903). A patriot, affected by the war, he produced Les Derniers jours du fort de Vaux in 1916. Critical, erudite, and not devoid of humour, he published many essays and memoirs, including Histoire d'une vie (1946–64). |
