| Playwright, born in Neuilly, NC France. He worked as an office clerk, and from 1867 tried his hand at various types of drama, but it was not until 1882 that he achieved fame with his masterpiece Les Corbeaux (1882), which describes a bitter struggle for an inheritance. Other works include the realistic comedy La Parisienne (1885), poetry Sonnets Mélancoliques (1887), and an autobiography Souvenirs d'un auteur dramatique (1895). |
