| Dutch economist and politician, born in Zeist, WC Netherlands. He entered parliament in 1958 for the Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie (VVD) and was twice finance minister (1963–5, 1967–71). He was appointed director-general of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) (1973–8) and until 1991 was an adviser to the Board of the AMRO Bank. |
