| Poet and artist, born in Groningen, N Netherlands. His work expresses the terrifying depths of the human mind in plain and direct language. In addition to the world of the unconscious, his second source of inspiration was Spain and the Spanish culture, and he very successfully translated and adapted Spanish coplas. Among other prizes, he received the Constantijn Huygensprijs in 1962 and the P C Hooft-prijs in 1973. He also painted and produced pen-drawings. |
