He emigrated to the USA in 1903 as a journalist and history teacher, and in 1922 published the best-selling illustrated Story of Mankind, followed by several other popular histories. His important historical studies include The Fall of the Dutch Republic (1913) and The Rise of the Dutch Kingdom (1915). |
